It doesn't get much softer than alpaca! This yarn from Drops is 100% alpaca wool, in a versatile sport weight. Its super soft texture makes it perfect for anything that will sit close to the skin, even for baby blankets. You could knit this yarn alone, double stranded in different colours for a marled effect, or you could even knit it with a mohair for extra fluff!

Like most wools, alpaca has amazing qualities such as being temperature regulating, odour and stain resistant, water and wind repellant, and hypoallergenic. But it's also more lightweight than other wools, making it a lovely material for layering all year round.

This alpaca yarn is sourced from farms in Peru, where mulesing is not practiced. The alpaca fiber is untreated, which means that it is only washed and not exposed to any chemical treatment prior to the dyeing. This highlights the fiber’s natural properties, while it also provides a better shape and texture quality. You can read more about Drops' sustainability values here.

We think this yarn is best suited for lightweight items that sit close to the skin. Long sleeve tees, cozy socks, baby blankets, hats and scarves - even a pair of pants would look amazing in this yarn! You can hold two strands of the same or different colours together, in order to use larger needles and knit it up faster as well.
